We pulled it off! In late August the lab rented a big ol’ van and road tripped it up to Boston and Cape Cod for a two-day retreat in Massachusetts! Fueled by music and coffee, we made it up North in great time. The lab spent Day 1 seeing Boston and Cambridge and meeting with colleagues, collaborators, and some old friends. At night we debated science and philosophy till the wee hours of the morning, nearly causing Yumi to quit the lab! Day 2 was spent relaxing on the beach in Cape Cod…see the pictures section for some fun action shots!
Josh and Shayan join the lab for summer internships
The lab is getting a more distinctly Canadian flavor! Joshua Rico and Shayan Rastgou, both undergraduates at the University of Ottawa, are doing summer internships in the Blanco lab. Josh is working on AML screens with Yumi, and Shayan is working on an epigenomics-based bioinformatics project. Welcome to Philly, USA, Josh and Shayan - have a great summer!
Zvi joins the lab!
The Lenger lab and Blanco lab are teaming up! Zvi is interested in the epigenetic regulation of intestinal stem cells and colorectal cancers, so he'll join both labs for a dual-adviser PhD project. Now that's synergy! Welcome, Zvi, and cheers!
Yumi joins the lab!
After an outstanding rotation, Yumi decided to join the Blanco lab for her PhD thesis research. She will study the role of the histone demethylase LSD1 in acute myeloid leukemia cell fate decisions. How exciting, cheers!!
